On August 28, 2020, coalition member US-Taiwan Business Council published a press release applauding Taiwan for making needed changes to its pork and beef import regime, and calling on the United States to open Bilateral Trade Agreement negotiations with Taiwan.
The US-Taiwan Business Council today welcomed the announcement by President Tsai Ing-wen that Taiwan will set standards for ractopamine residue in imported pork and ease import restrictions on American beef. This is the most important development in bilateral relations in the past decade, and it opens the door to a possible Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) between the United States and Taiwan.
The Council calls on the U.S. to respond by launching BTA negotiations as soon as possible.
